Boys Soccer:
Led by captains Will McLaughlin, Harry Bates, and Roman Corcoran, the boys soccer team had another outstanding regular season. Finishing with a record of 13-4, they qualified for playoffs once again. Having good ability, trust, and faith is essential to success, and the team brought that this year with great leadership from their seniors. Junior, Josh Garbarini expressed,“ [the seniors] have provided a bunch of goals this year, and have been great leaders all around.” Due to their record, the boys soccer team qualified for playoffs. Junior, Adam DiBatista, having experienced prior playoffs, thinks “[ the team] is really hopeful to go far this year, and [ the team] believes that this year is the year to do really well.”

Girls Soccer:
The Springfield girl’s soccer team has played through their historic season with optimism and unity. The team has an even split of both under and upperclassmen. Because of this, the upperclassmen have helped take in the younger girls and play as one. The Spartans have been working through tough games and long practices, building their chemistry on and off the field. The vibes are always up at practices where the team plays and sings along to music. The season capped off with the team going 12 and 5 overall and 9 and 1 in the Freedom division. This historic number of wins led the girls to a freedom division championship for the first time in school history. Murphy McGranaghan, the team captain, says that the team “bonded a lot during this season because [they] could laugh and talk with new players.”

Football:
The Football team had a good year this year having overcome adversity, welcomed new faces well, and grew as a team. Junior, quarterback Nathan Torrealba said, “ [The seniors who] led us [were] great. [They] kept us in check and going when times were tough and helped us get better.” He also said that, “[the freshman] have done well this year, [with] a few of them get[ting] to play up on varsity, [where] they get better and better.’’ The team welcomed many new faces and persevered greatly this year.

Field Hockey: The field hockey team wraps up its season filled with hard work, teamwork, and determination. After losing some key seniors last year, the team looked towards the younger players to step up. Senior and Captain, Ella McLaughlin says she’s been “really impressed with the freshman and sophomores.” However, having a predominantly underclassmen team, the team bonding took longer than other sports. But luckily with many leaders all over the field and, after practicing and playing with each other for a couple of months, “the team has meshed a lot quicker than [she] expected” says junior, Julia Cooney. With a mix of veteran leadership and new talent, the team had many fun times together.

Girls Tennis:
Sometimes a team’s success is not measured by wins and losses, but by bonding and growth. The girls tennis team had a successful season of becoming closer, and better tennis players.
Senior captains Penny Kline, Marli DeAndrade and Bailey Haines and Amelia Bohr, and the upper classmen played a big role in this. Freshman, Ella Levitt said, “[The seniors] helped me through my first year of playing tennis, and helped all the freshman and new players get comfortable and settled.” Senior captain Penny Kline emphasized, “ We had a really good group of girls this year, there was a great sense of friendship in the team, and everyone played their best.”
Girls Water Polo:

The girl’s water polo team picked up right where they left off last season. For more success this year, the girls have been put in long hours full of stamina, work, and strength building. The team has many returning players, which has led to multiple leaders. Senior, Greta Pischke explains how much she enjoys the team and how she’s “enjoyed time with old friends and new friends.” The team is very dedicated to continuing their success this year. With this goal in the minds of all the team members, practices include lots of hard work to be the best that they can. Through this hard work, the team has grown close together in these rigorous activities. The pool is full of uplifting messages to each other and communication is never sparse. As the regular season is ending, the team looks to continue the success that others have had before in their upcoming post season.

Boys Water Polo:
The Spartan boy’s water polo squad took the season by storm with grueling, tiring, but rewarding games. The group is eager to see how this season’s advancements will be reflected through the playoffs. The team is led by senior Logan Stum, who is extremely excited about the season. He explains that “although [they] have lost some important players, [they] still believe that they can have a great season.” And he was right. Because of the small group of water polo members, “[they] are able to build friendships with each other.” This is on display as older members act as parents or role models for the underclassmen. This dynamic has brought lots of success to the team. The boys look forward to the upcoming playoffs and know that there will be lots of fun in this postseason.
Volleyball:

The Springfield girl’s volleyball team was back for their second season. Because it is still a new sport at Springfield, the team mostly consisted of new players that haven’t played with each other before. Due to being unfamiliar with each other as teammates, the team had to focus on growing close together, and when they did, the practices were a lot more fun and competitive. Throughout the season, the team was coming together smoothly and they were successful at improving their chemistry. “The team really improved on working well together and growing to trust each other,” varsity junior Gracie D’Amico says. These are all very positive signs that the girls can perform their best as a team.
Cross Country:

With the season coming to a close, the Spartans Cross Country team had a season full of fun times and great memories. The girl’s team finished second in the division and the boys finished fifth. The team could be seen running through the neighborhoods in the township or down at the Wissahickon trail throughout the fall season. The team, due to its small size, has “grown close with each other. The older members have really helped the newer ones feel comfortable,” says sophomore, Aiden Flynn. Each athlete would “push and encourage the other to run that extra mile or a little bit faster” Flynn says. The team has many impressive young athletes that have shown extreme improvement throughout the season. The Cross country team ended their season with personal records from everyone! Both teams now are “looking forward to districts and hopefully states” explains Flynn.

Golf:
The Spartans Golf team ends their season with another successful season going 12-0 and winning their 7th straight Freedom Division championship. Although golf is mostly an individual sport, the team has formed a close-knit group of friends. The team is mostly made of upperclassmen, so the group has no shortage of leadership on the course. Through these close relations, junior Ryan McGuckin says, “[they] are able to play the best [they] can because [he] is just enjoying the time with [his] friends.” Despite the jokes, the team seems to be in top form in the actual gameplay. The team continued to impress this year with four athletes qualifying for Districts and Ryan Brnich, who also qualified for States! The team is looking forward to more success.
