As the school year comes to a close, field trips take over our students’ schedules particularly for the juniors and seniors. Some educational, some just for fun, all with different perceptions from our student and faculty body. The Chronicle gained some very interesting insight about the benefits of the trips from both students and faculty advisors alike.
Drexel

This past March, the AP Physics classes took a trip to Drexel University for their annual Physics Day. Students observed various experiments done by students and professors at Drexel, showing different physics phenomena. Mr. Arner, a physics teacher at our school, was the advisor for this trip and provided some insight on what they did there and how he and students seemed to feel about it. He says they, “attended the Physics day open house where students observed different experiments and demonstrations. We then had lunch at the food trucks outside and attended a lecture from a viral physics professor from Texas A&M.”
When asked about student appeal and engagement he answered, “The kids definitely enjoyed it, they have a lot of interest…they also enjoyed seeing that some of the experiments that they did during the open house were demos that I do in my classroom.” While the trip was reportedly very information rich and educational on both different physics phenomena and about Drexel as a potential future college for the visiting students, it was also reportedly a very engaging experience, leaving the students with a more informed view of physics and Drexel University.
New York City
On May 21st the junior class is headed to New York City, led by the history department to visit some historical buildings and landmarks after a long year of learning about the history behind all of them. Junior, Jude Slowik, says he is “I’m super excited for the trip! I’m most excited because we’re going to see monuments from our nation’s history which somehow I’ve never seen even though I live so close.”
When asked about his perspective on how it makes him feel about our school and how it affects his school spirit, Slowik responded, “It definitely makes me more proud of our school because it shows that they value what students want and want us to learn in and out of the classroom.” Students seem to be very excited with this upcoming trip and feel as though it represents a school that is actively trying to engage students in different ways, increasing their feelings of pride for our school.
Hershey
On May 28th, the senior class will be attending Hershey Park for a class trip. There’s so much excitement when it comes to these trips, especially for seniors. Senior Jonathan Soto says that he’s “excited to get out of school and hang out with [his] grade for one last final time.” Not only is this class trip exciting, but there are so many school benefits as well. “It makes me love our school so much more because the seniors get such a super cool trip,” Soto says. With this trip opportunity provided to the seniors, they get one last hurrah as a class before graduation.
Dorney
While the seniors will be attending Hershey the 28th, the junior class will be attending Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom on the same day. Junior Tenzin Chukey says, “it’s a day off from school and [they] get to enjoy the sun while going on some rides.” There are many students into the trip with high spirits and feel that this trip endorses school spirit overall. “It makes me more excited to think about the end of the year and the end of the school year activities,” says Junior Emma Crosson. Not only is this trip exciting, but it also brings a feeling of nostalgia. “We’re just reminiscing on when we went in eighth grade, connecting me back to the school more,” Chukey adds. This junior class trip is a great opportunity for the class to get together.
