Greenfield
Greenfield is a program for students to spend the school year writing, directing, producing, and acting in a short film that they ultimately submit for a year-end competition. On April 22, 2026, the Greenfield Contest took place and included schools in Montgomery County and Philadelphia. On this special night, students dressed up and hoped to win awards for their films. Ella DePasquale explains the night was to “honor all of the films that were made, and they had multiple categories for the different winners, like best director, best picture, best narrative, etc.” Congrats to Carlos Rivera, who won best poster for his film, as well as Isaac Darga and Yuna Suzuki, who won best narrative!
Isaac, whose film “Per My Last Email” won 2nd Place for Best Narrative, says, “This means a lot to me as someone who only started really getting into filmmaking in the past year! The process of coming up with the idea, writing the screenplay, getting the actors, filming everything by myself, directing the film, and editing it was a lot to say the least, but I also learned tremendously throughout the process. It was great to be recognized on this level with schools in the surrounding counties, and I am very grateful for the Storytelling through Film class community here at Springfield for their support!”
VOE
VOE recently held its end-of-year banquet, where the seniors promoted juniors and sophomores to the board of directors. The new officers include: Keira Mason, CEO; Gael Vega, President; Taj Dillard, Vice President; Kavi Karnichenko, Secretary; Spike Stroll, Treasurer; Saniya Johnson, Art Director; Shaun Smallwood and London Latham, Alternates to the Board. Currently, these members are in the process of preparing for next year. Major events from this past year included Friendsgiving with other black school clubs in the Montgomery County area, and the Black History Month brunch, which Springfield VOE hosted and received a great turnout. The Career Day at the high school was also a huge success thanks to Cayla Brooks.
