The indoor track team wrapped up a successful season this winter, highlighted by strong performances at several meets and impressive individual achievements. Through hard work, dedication, and team support, athletes competed at a high level and continued to improve throughout the season. Numerous records were broken and new precedents were set that are propelling Springfield Township High School track to the next level.
A Record-Breaking Season
The dream of every track athlete is crossing the finish line and looking over at their time and realizing they have written their name in the history books. Coach Stone and Coach Stovall, STHS Track and Field’s new coaches, mentored several athletes as they achieved this dream. The records STHS Indoor Track and Field broke this season are the sprint medley relay, 4x200m relay, boys and girls triple jump and long jump field events, boys and girls 200m dash, and girls 4×400 relay.

The boys track and field team also finished first at the Meet of Champs with a time that placed them 4th in the state and 23rd in the country at the time, highlighting the team’s strong performance throughout the season.
Springfield’s State Success
Athletes Lauren Broadus, Caleb Bronson, Caden Bronson, Kedar Moore, and Zymir Small all competed at the PTFCA Indoor State Championships this year. Sophomore Lauren Broadus had an outstanding season, breaking the school record in both the 60
m and 200m dashes with times of 7.68 and 25.16. She finished 7th in both events, earning two state medals.

Broadus explained that one of her struggles this season was adjusting to a new main event. “One of my biggest challenges this season was being forced to pivot from one of my main events, the 400 meter dash, to only running the 60m and the 200m,” she said. “It was like learning how to run track for the first time all over again.” Despite facing “trials an
d errors, frustrating practices, and disappointing meets,” she stayed committed and eventually saw her hard work pay off.
“My highlight of the season was being able to bring home not only one but two state medals,” Broadus said. “For me to make such a difference in only a year just shows how much dedication, commitment, and hard work I put into what I do.” She also credited her motivation to her personal drive to improve, explaining that she “made it [her] mission to make a difference this year.”
Senior Caleb Bronson also had a successful season, finishing 5th in the triple jump and earning a medal at states. When asked about his team’s achievements, Bronson attributed them to the unity and togetherness of the group. He explained that “a lot of the time boys would go support the girls for their meets and vice versa,” highlighting the strong sense of community among the team.
Bronson also shared that he had to battle through injury during the season, which pushed him to work even harder to achieve his goals. When asked about his motivation, he explained that his love for the sport keeps him focused on “doing the best [he can] and [trying] to be the best athlete in whatever event [he is] doing.”
With numerous records broken, state medals earned, and strong team support throughout the season, the STHS indoor track team built a strong foundation for the future of the program.
