What is the food drive for?
December is a popular month for service-based activities, especially with the holidays on the horizon. Recently, the National Honor Society has taken part in a food drive for the Willow Grove Baptist Church food pantry due to an increase in the supported families. “At its core, it’s just a really simple way to get involved,” informs Isaac Darga, a senior and NHS member. The club’s main forms of donations include “food and hygiene products,” according to senior Annie Wolkenberg, a member of the NHS.

Why is it beneficial for students to be involved in the food drive?
Acts of service as a whole are rewarding experiences for all those taking part in them. The food drive is no different, as it enhances participants’ awareness of others’ situations. “I feel like a lot of people don’t realize how it can be to not have food for every meal or not have enough groceries,” Wolkenberg remarks. Besides the insight to different lifestyles the food drive offers, other benefits are assured; “It’s also really good to help with community,” comments senior and NHS member Griffin Bianchi. “Communities are coming together and helping other people, which is really important,” Bianchi notes, regarding the positive effect the food drive has to a wide variety of people.
The effects of student contribution
The National Honor Society has worked to promote its food drive throughout the school to bring in more donations through buckets that are present in select clubs and every English classroom, as well as a poster that lists the accepted donations. “Each person giving a little bit contributes a lot more,” Darga states. All in all, no donation is too little concerning a worthy cause.
