“Students of the Month” is a new addition to Springfield Township High School! Its goal is to honor students in academics, activities, athletics, and overall excellence in exemplifying what it means to be a “Spartan.” The Chronicle would like to recognize these selected students for the month of September.
Activities Students of the Month:
Mr. LaRocco explains that to choose the Activities Students of the Month, he “reaches out to student advisors for nominations of students who demonstrate exceptional involvement, leadership, and school spirit in clubs or activities.” He then selects two of these students to be recognized.
Congratulations to and Ruby Broussard and Isaac Darga!

“Being chosen as a student of the month means a lot to me, because being recognized for the things I’ve put so much time and effort into makes it all feel worthwhile.” – Ruby Broussard

Isaac explains, “I feel very honored to be chosen as an Activities Student of the Month! Being involved in both the arts and government here has taught me that creativity and advocacy are essential to leadership. I’m proud to help lead and grateful to be part of an active, connected community full of incredible opportunities. Most of all, I love helping build a place where everyone feels seen and inspired to get involved.” – Isaac Darga
Academic Students of the Month:

National Merit Scholarships
Last October, the class of 2026 took the PSATs in preparation for the SATs, but also for the chance to become a National Merit Scholar. There are many rounds of review, narrowing the top 50,000 scores to 6,000 – 7,000 scholars. Out of the national merit pool of 50,000 student scores, 34,000 become National Merit Commended students. This is awarded to students with top scores and varies on state’s population based requirements. Out of 34,000 awarded this academic honor, 7 are Springfield students!
Congratulations to the following students:
-

National Merit Commended Students (Dr. Rittenhouse ) Isaac Darga
- Josephine Kling
- Lilian Martin
- Nell Matthews
- Elias Shatt
- William Toombs
- Ari Schwartzman
From these 34,000 students, 16,000 are selected to be National Merit Semifinalists because of their exceptional PSAT score.
Congratulations to Ari Schwartzman on becoming a National Merit Semifinalist!

After being selected as a semifinalist, Ari had to submit an application including an essay, an activities list, an official SAT or ACT score, and an application filled out by Springfield. He is now waiting to see if he will be selected as one of the 15,000 finalists to then hopefully become one of the 6,000 to 7,000 National Merit Scholars. This title qualifies students for a $2,500 scholarship, college scholarships, and company scholarships.
Schwartzman says that he “really appreciate[s] the recognition,” and is looking forward to future scholarship opportunities.
These students have been dedicated, passionate, and overall outstanding, congratulations to all!
