Spartan’s Varsity Softball has had a season full of ups and downs in their games; however, their team bonding has never been stronger. Co-Captain Joce Davis says “I feel like we have really grown as a team at being encouraging to each other,” especially since they “have a lot of young girls on the team.” Freshman Natalie Hartman agrees saying, “I think they are really welcoming to us as lower classmen,” and that the team is doing “really [well] working together.”
Through this season they have had some star players such as Ashely Schultz who has hit multiple home runs and Julia Matthews who Davis says is “killing it out there.” Davis also shouts out her other Co-Captains Ashley Shultz and McKayla McKeever who are “always very encouraging to the team.”
This year’s season record is (6-12). For future seasons, Hartman says the goal is to “make playoffs and to just keep winning.”
Boys Lacrosse by Sophia Gatti

The Springfield boy’s lacrosse ended their season with a 2-15 record. Typical practices were packed with ballwork, conditioning, and defensive and offensive drills. With no set captains, the role rotated between senior players, giving way to team-wide leadership and a unique dynamic.
According to senior Paul Silvius, the team was motivated by a few losses to push themselves throughout the season: “We practic[ed] six days a week… and… really improved.”
Silvius also explained the unique team dynamic, stating, “[they’re] all friends on and off the field.” With regular team dinners and a mutual resolve to push each other, friendships were strengthened throughout the season. Silvius encourages any aspiring players to join next year!
Girls Lacrosse by Adam DiBattista
Girl’s lacrosse ended the season with a record of 10-9 and played as the #5 seed in District 1 playoffs. The team had big wins including one against Quakertown. This game also was for the fundraiser Compete for a Cause: The CHOP Diabetes Center.

The captains were Shannan Silvia’s, Natalie Rittler, and Jess Shapley. Junior, Murphy McGranaghan says that “each captain was super fun to be around but they also pushed the other players to be better.” All of the girls knew when to lock in for the game and it showed through serious grit and determination in their games. Practices mostly began with some sort of conditioning, whether running around the neighborhood or on the turf, and then going over plays and implementing them.
Off the field, the team grew close quickly. Murphy says, “the memories that [she’ll] remember most [this year] is laughing with the other girls during the practices. This was also on display during games as all players contributed to game play.
The team is looking forward to what the future will bring in years to come!
Boys Tennis by Phineas McCaslin
The boys’ tennis team completed their season with an overall balanced record of 6-6. They secured wins in half their matches while giving great effort in all matches. The team dealt with several challenges. However, they consistently displayed resilience and perseverance in the court.
This year’s team captains were Ben Luce, Charlie Farmer, and Eoin Anto.
Under their leadership, the team maintained a consistent level of commitment and cooperation. Junior, Cody Natali noted a “strong team dynamic with members encouraging each other to improve throughout the season.” Also, there was significant improvement in all players, showing the growth that the team environment can create.
One of the most memorable matches took place against Abington, Cody recalls. Both the first and second singles matches extended to three sets. Andrew Lam was down 4-1 in the final set before making a comeback to win the match. In addition, Eoin Anto competed in a close match that ended in a 10-point tiebreaker. With support from the team on the sidelines, he secured the win.
The season concluded with a mix of determination, growth, and shared experiences. With seniors graduating, the team is looking ahead to continuing developing in future seasons.
Track and Field by Sean Currier
The Track and Field team enjoyed a strong season full of personal bests and broken records. Coach Mazurek won the STHS Athletics Male Coach of the Season for his mentorship and leadership over the entire track team. Other standout performances included:
Lauren Broadus, who broke the girls’ school records for the 400m and 200m races. CJ Johnson, who broke the men’s school record in the 400m. Caleb Bronson, who broke the men’s school record in the triple jump. Sarah Bell, who broke the girls’ school records in triple jump and long jump. And finally, the boys 4×100 and 4×400 teams each broke the previous boy’s school records. The team placed third place amongst the Freedom division teams at the season’s league championship.
Captain CJ Johnson, the current record holder of the 400m at Springfield, is “extremely proud of what the team has accomplished this year.” He is looking forward to “the future of the team,” as he believes even more records are to be broken and more memories are to be made. The track team has done incredibly well this year, and continues to grow in interest among the Spartans here in Springfield Township High School.
Congratulations to Coach Mazurek, as this season marked the final season for him as coach of the Track and Field team at Springfield. At the end of the season banquet, captain Matt Haugh compiled a heartwarming video of former Springfield Track and Field players congratulating Coach Mazurek on his incredible time as coach. His influence on the Track and Field team has been felt for years already, and will continue to be felt for years to come.
Baseball by Roxana Cardoso

The boys baseball team had an overall record of 18-4, and earned the PIAA District 1 4A Number 1 seed. They made it to the playoffs, hosting Interboro High School in the first round. With captains Nolan Kidwell and Owen Hastings, the team formed a special bond. Through intense pre-season workouts and team dinners that allowed them to come together before big games, they focused on team building this year. “The team and program really came around this year. They have worked hard to get to this point and I hope the team and program will continue to get better each year,” reflects coach Rob Bond. The boys celebrated their brotherhood this year and look forward to many more successful seasons to come.

Unified Track by Adam DiBattista
The Unified Track season was, once again, a very successful one. The races and practices could be heard all throughout the campus with loud yells of encouragement and celebration. The team didn’t just win with great times and big leads, but also with big smiles and high-fives. The grou’ps close-knit relationships helped individuals find that motivation during races. It seemed, at times, the team was a big caring family.
Achievements shone brightly this year with Junior, Will McLaughlin winning April Student-Athlete of the Month. He could be seen at practices helping out all the teammates and taking roll during warm-ups. Not just was he a great leader off the track, but he was also a very strong runner for the team. The 4×100 relay also competed at Penn Relays and placed an impressive 2nd place. The team consisted of Julian Ciasullo, Christian Vaughan, Warren Sharpe, and Will McLaughlin. Warren says that “[it] was so cool to run on a big track in front of a lot of people.”
Warren also notes on how much fun he had during the season. He could always be seen at school repping Unified Track gear and getting the team hyped up before races. He says his favorite part was “being around friends” which was on display at all times.
The team, although sad that the season has ended, is excited for next year already!
