As the year comes to an end, we like to look back at all the ways the school served the community through its annual fundraisers. Traditional and new fundraisers this year included the blood drive, Cradles to Crayons, the Make a Wish Foundation, and the Polar Plunge.

The advisor of Student Council and the organizer of the blood drive, Mrs. McDade, said that she is “always blown away by how many students that participate in [the] events.” However, her personal favorite is the Polar-Plunge because of “the anticipation leading up to the cold jumps and the laughs afterwards.” The polar plunge has always been extremely popular at Springfield. Many students dress up in costumes which add to the fun of the day. Along with the fun, the Frozen Spartan team raised over 18,000 dollars!
A new fundraiser this year was the taping of Mr. LaRocco to benefit the Make a Wish Foundation. Students paid $3 to put a piece of tape on Mr. LaRocco and stick him to the wall. It was a big hit with over 150 pieces of tape–meaning over $450 was raised!
The blood drive was another great showing from the Spartans. Students were allotted times to donate their blood to the Red Cross. Although giving blood can be hard to do, many students said that they felt good due to the fact that they were helping others out.

Cradles to Crayons was another fundraiser where students could donate clothes to a good cause. The collected clothes were sent to a warehouse, where students then sorted and identified clothes that could be reused. Senior, Matt Hay said, “it was really nice to give back to the community.” These clothes will be given to those less fortunate in hopes that a single person has enough clothes to wear for a week.
Although Springfield isn’t as big as neighboring townships, the community comes together and helps out when an event happens. As Mrs. McDade says, “[Springfield is a] small but mighty school!”
