Girls Basketball

With a record of 6-17, the Springfield Girls Basketball team had many ups and downs this season. The team focused on progressing their offense, and according to senior Norah Million, “all of the players worked hard and showed out on the court.”
After hard losses, the team continued to prove their resilience with strong efforts. “Together, we can do anything,” reflects Freshman Emmy Rutkowski. Coach Wetton is proud of the bonds they made: “This season has been one of growth, perseverance, and resilience.”

Indoor Track
By: Sean Currier
Indoor track is not just high-intensity workouts; it also promises fun team dinners and movie nights. When asked about these events, Coach Woods replied, “I’m always being creative and thinking of ways on how we can get people interested in even entertaining coming out to run…” and, “If they know about things like team dinners or a team movie night… they’ll be more susceptible to [thinking], ‘this sounds pretty cool,’ just to help get them come out and get their foot in the door.”
Once someone is on the team, Coach Woods’ strenuous workouts and hands-on approach pushes athletes. However, when it comes to being a track runner, Coach Woods believes that “the number one factor is grades. At the end of the day, no one can run and be a part of this team if their grades are not right.” This mentality emphasizes Coach Woods love for all her athletes on the team.
Wrestling
By: Timothy Barry
After moving up to AAA, the highest division in Pennsylvania wrestling, the team finished with a successful 12-7 record, going 3-2 in Suburban One duals and placing 3rd at the Suburban One tournament.
Junior Captain Aaron Kaufman was the first wrestler in school history to qualify for AAA regionals this season after placing 6th at districts. The team stepped up and beat tough opponents, including a decisive 37-36 win over Upper Perkiomen.
Kaufman and Coach McCaslin both agreed that the team “exceeded expectations.” Kaufman credited the team’s success to the wrestlers feeling more comfortable with each other and a growing brotherhood. The team also has a lot of returning talent for next year, including Aaron Kaufman, Tom Saiber, Ethan Gatti, and Tom Ryan. With the tools in place, Coach McCaslin expects a season that rivals the best this school has seen.

Boys Basketball

The basketball team had a successful season, finishing with a 12-11 record, which hasn’t been done in over twenty years. The team also qualified for the 5A District Playoffs.
What impressed Coach Fusaro most about the team was their “toughness and dedication to competing every day in practice and games.” The team was regularly competing against much larger schools, but “by having such a hard-working and never-backing-down mentality… each player knew they could win.”
Senior Bobby Hartman added that even though they weren’t favored to win, “[they] were still determined to work hard and not give up.” This courage and determination did not go unnoticed: Hartman was named Suburban One Second Team, and Senior Aiden Hood was recognized with a Suburban One Honorable Mention. Coach Fusaro is excited for next year’s players “to continue the excellent tradition that these seniors have established for our basketball program.”
Boys Swim
By: Timothy Barry
The Boys’ Swim team had a very exciting and dominant season this year. The boys went 6-3 this season, with victories over Neshaminy and Cheltenham and a closer upset victory over Upper Moreland.
Senior Aiden Tallon said that his last season was “by far his favorite” and that he was “thrilled to have this team continue the legacy.” After losing so many seniors, the team outperformed their expectations for this season, performing well through their Suburban One League tournament and districts. The boy’s success can be attributed to their best swimmers, Michael Cooper, Greyson Line, Logan Stum, and Jonny Gendron, having spectacular seasons and dropping times at almost every meet. Junior Will Cameron shouted out Ryder Learnard for his performance this season, qualifying for districts in the 100 breaststroke as a sophomore.
Junior Daniel Wesztergom was thrilled by the improvement of the underclassmen but called on them to “take it another step and become leaders on the team.” The boys will train in the off-season for another Suburban One championship to add to the streak next season.
Girls Swim

With many girls qualifying for states this year, it is safe to say that the Springfield Girls Swim Team had a successful season. The girls placed second at the District One Championship and won the Suburban One Freedom Division. “We stayed connected,” says senior Ashley Schulz, reflecting on the team’s bond that got them through the long and hard practices. The team was “a force to be reckoned with [and] they continue to set incredibly high standards that our athletes consistently achieve,” says Coach Reiner. Junior Madeline Lodge says, “Everyone had a good time,” as the team celebrated many successes. The team hopes to succeed at states, and as the season closes, they wait excitedly for next year.

Unified Bocce
By: Adam DiBattista
Once again, the Unified Bocce team had a very successful season. The team went all the way to regionals for the first time, where they placed seventh. The team was led by great rolls from Captain Judah Snyder, Bella Frank, and Warren Sharpe. Captain Brendan Noonan credits the team’s success to “Warren’s energy” and goes on to say, “he always was hyping up the team through chants or celebrating after a win.”
Every game, laughs and talking could be heard from the Springfield team, and with every day, the team “got closer and started to bond,” says sophomore Leah Hyland. Bus rides, too, were fun with help from Ryan Clements and Warren Sharpe’s voices. Ryan could be heard singing songs by Alvin and the Chipmunks and adding his own twist on the lyrics to sing everyone on the bus’s name. The team is extremely excited for next year in the hopes of making it back to the regionals!
