Boys Basketball

Boys basketball has had a strong start, holding a 7-2 record as of late December. Senior Captains Will Cooney, Bobby Hartman, and Aiden Hood have led the team through these triumphs, with support from head coach Rob Fusaro. The team takes pride in their wins, crediting their success to their cooperative dynamic. Hood emphasizes how “[the team is] on the same page, on and off the court,” also pointing out their defense as the main reason for “[winning] many of the season’s bigger games.” Through the team’s coordination and devotion to the sport, they are prepared to continue their triumphs.
Wrestling

The Springfield wrestling team is shaping up to have a strong winter season. Led by Coach McCaslin with captains Kai Jones and Colin Pennington, the team is very prepared to take on different schools this year. Sophomore Mike Eder emphasizes this season’s team focus on “hard work, discipline, and keeping a strong sense of brotherhood among the athletes.” The team is focused on forming stronger bonds with each other and staying “locked in for success.” With strong performances already occurring, such as junior Aaron Kaufman’s second-place finish at the annual Springside Chestnut Hill High School Tournament and a victory against Wissahickon, the team is geared for a good season with promises of elite competitiveness.
Swimming & Diving

Following the success of the boys’ and girls’ fall water polo seasons, the Spartan swimmers and divers are having an exciting winter season. Led by boys’ captains Jonathan Gendron, Greyson Line, and Michael Cooper and girls’ captains Olivia Igou, Laney Forster, and Hayden Smith, the team has been working hard to condition themselves to be district or state champions. Gendron (12) views this year’s team as “focused,” highlighting their ability to “adapt [and] work together to achieve [their] goals as a team.” With assistance from coaches Matthew Moretti, Nick Militello, Lizanne Hendershott, and Bud Reiner, the team is determined to achieve new milestones.
Indoor Track

As the fall months sprint out, the Spartan indoor track team sprints in! With Coach Woods and Coach Stone, along with junior captains Cayden Bronson, Kedar Moore, and Elana Culler, this season is looking to be a good one. So far, the boy’s 4×400 relay has already qualified for states, and according to senior Olivia Tau, as a team, “the runners are looking strong,” with many “placing high” in meets. Tau also notices a “strong positive bond in the team with a good hard working ethic,” showing the dedication and teamwork present this season.
Unified Bocce

The Springfield Unified Bocce team is back again. After a great season last year, the Spartans have high expectations. Coach Kelly was very pleased with the team’s first match, especially the performance of athlete Warren Sharpe. The Spartan Bocce team has a home match on February 9th against Upper Merrion.
