Though it can’t be heard, our hallways contain a harmony of different songs through AirPods and headphones. In our day and age, there is so much music available that each person’s music preferences have become a part of our identities. In our school setting, the diversity of music preferences reflects the differences of students who fill the halls. Some gravitate to the booming rhythms of hip-hop, while others find their preferences reside in the melodies of pop music. There are those who get lost in the exciting energy of rock and roll, while others embrace different cultures through music in various languages.
These varied tastes reflect the comprehensive memories, stories, emotions, and experiences that sculpt each student. They are a tribute to the broad spectrum of humanity and personalities throughout Springfield, reminding us that each of our differences makes us special.
Just like a symphony is made richer by harmonies of different instruments, Springfield is made richer by the unique music tastes of its students. Since a person’s music taste is typically something that goes unshared, we asked various members of the Springfield community to report on the kind of music they listen to.
